Before we build
Self-hosting should solve a concrete need.
More control is not a goal by itself. Before agreeing a setup, we clarify the requirement, who owns the accounts and who takes responsibility after handover. If a managed solution is a better fit, that is the right recommendation.
Delivery model
One setup. A clear handover.
You pay an agreed one-time fee for the defined setup. Ongoing hosting and service costs are paid separately to the providers whose agreements you own.
One-time setup fee
The fee covers the agreed configuration work. Scope and responsibility are clarified before work begins.
Configured infrastructure
I configure the agreed environment and check that the selected parts work together.
Documentation
You receive a practical description of the setup, access, backups, updates and responsibilities.
Handover
I walk you through the solution and hand over access and the agreed material.
Client ownership
Accounts, access and configuration remain under your control after handover.

What is configured
The specific setup follows the agreed need.
Not every business needs the same configuration. Depending on scope, the setup can include:
Hosting foundation
Server environment, domain and DNS, secure access and an understandable base structure.
Applications and services
Web applications, container-based services, internal tools and automated workflows.
Data and resilience
Databases, backups, monitoring and a clear plan for updates.
Hosting and costs
EU-based hosting where it fits the requirement.
When data, operational and commercial requirements support it, I configure the solution with an EU-based hosting provider. You own the provider agreement and see ongoing costs directly, making them easier to forecast. Usage-based charges can still vary.
Ownership and documentation
The setup is documented and under your control.
I document access, components, backups, updates and the agreed operating routines. Where possible, accounts and subscriptions are created in your company name, and the material is reviewed during handover.
After handover
Ongoing operation becomes your responsibility.
After handover, your business is responsible for operation, monitoring, updates, backup checks and ongoing provider costs. Any later work from Novellence is a new, separately agreed task.
When self-hosting is not the right fit
Greater ownership also means greater responsibility.
I do not recommend self-hosting when a managed solution better matches the business's needs and capacity.
- You have no technical owner or capacity to take over ongoing operation.
- You require round-the-clock operation, formal service guarantees or fully managed responsibility.
- A simple managed website platform already covers the need without unnecessary complexity.
- Security or compliance requirements should be handled by a specialist managed provider.
